Craft schemeing

So, I've been thinking up ideas to make some more felt holiday decorations. Here are my sketchy ideas. Maybe some how I can make these little crafty items into something I can sell or give away. Hopefully soon I will get started on production, progress photos will come.

ps: If you like the designs please don't steal, just make me make you one.

Two guys in a market

I went walking today to one of my favorite spots, the Chelsea Market. It's a great place to sketch people and architecture. So I just sat down and waited for an unaware person to sit at the table in front of me, and ta-dah! These are the sketches.

Progress on a project that's still in progress...

So, I've been working on this little animation test on and off again since last September, and well I'm still working on it. It's a "scene" from the book Wrinkle in Time where Mrs. Whatsit turns into a centaur like alien. The problem is I keep adding and adding, I'm not sure where the finish is.
The first half is animated and then it's just keys, and yes, I do need to reference and redo the gallop a little. I'm sure it's driving all you horse fans crazy.

Dancers in Progress

So I've been feeling all sore throat and fatigue lately, so I didn't go to drawing last night. But I did start on a illustration, that I've been thinking about. Here's the story:

So friend Erin aka Ranger Elf, posted a video of Dog Days are Over by Florence and The Machine on facebook. Which then got me connect with their song Cosmic Love, which then got me talking with my friend Jessica about their song Drumming Song, which on that same day saw that another friend Shanna exclaimed her love for the band in her status, which then I saw a link to friend Rachel's blog where she was being influenced by the song Heavy In Your Arms.

So, I got the mental picture of all of us playing dress up and dancing in a sort of line dance to the many great songs by Florence and The Machine.

Here it is about 20% done....still have a lot of work ahead.

Take Me to the ZOO!

Juno and I went to the Washington DC ZOO! It's just something about the zoo that makes me excited in a childhood way. I did a little sketching, but actually I took more pictures, and I'm pleased with my photos. And I'm thinking of doing little doodles of animals based on these photos later.

Weekend of Travel

I went away this weekend to see my boyfriend at his family's house in Maryland. It's a long distant relationship, I know. But he's worth it, just take my word for it. Here's a link to his artwork: The Art of Juno Mendiola

I tried sketching his niece, but she's a ball of energy so I could only get a few in as she watched Monster's Inc.

And yeah, she did those three poses in less than three minutes.

It's a GLORIOUS day!

I would be a fool not to take a walk outside today. So I headed to the High Line and did some studies. One old man and his wife sat next to me and he said he will be my critic cause he used to paint back in the 60s. I said oh no, these aren't that good. And he responded, Let me see, let me see. I showed him my drawings, and he said that there are pretty good, and he has no patience to do that stuff anymore. I took that as a compliment and bought myself ice cream.

Happy St. Patrick's day stupid hair guy

So I fell asleep before I could post. Yesterday wasn't only St. Patrick's Day, but also figure drawing night. I'm not too happy about these drawings, and I blame the model, cause it's easy to do that. In the words of my boyfriend, the model had "stupid hair" and it annoyed me the whole time. Oh well, sorry figure model dude.

Watercolor Blues

It's a rainy day. So I celebrated with watercolors, get it? Here are two quick pen and watercolor studies of the dining hall here at my residence.

Doodle thoughts

So there was no post for yesterday and I can explain. I got enchanted by the show "Gunslinger Girl" and spent my free time watching the show.

And it almost made me want to get a gun and hide it in my clarinet case.

Cause it's not suspicious at all for a grown women to dress like a child and carry around a clarinet case with a rifle in it. And I could probably pull it off too. Oh well.

ALSO! Another ASIFA screening tonight! Join me, I'll be there! Don't worry I'll leave the clarinet case at home.

Painting the outside of a box

I don't really know anything about abstract painting, but once and awhile I do these "from the gut" paintings. Everything from the colors to composition I just go with my gut feeling where and what it should be. And today I just really wanted to paint on a box, even though I have canvas. I just really like the idea of taking one thing and making it in to something new. Yeah recycling!

Making some cards

I actually started making cards awhile ago when I went to buy a card and had that moment,"Wait, I'm an artist gosh darn it! I'll just make my own greeting cards!". But because I'm too poor to buy all that fancy card making supplies, I decided to use recycled material, receipts, tissue paper from gifts, retail stickers from my boyfriend (thanks Juno!), etc.

So I dabbled with card making here and there, but I still managed to miss birthdays. So my new years resolution for 2011 was to make a home made card for every birthday in my family (and a few friends). I have been successful so far, there was just that one card, that I made and didn't mail it in time...sorry Leah.

There is only one birthday in my family in March, so I made another one for someone in my family who is recuperating from surgery. (I'm sure you two can guess who you are)

The first one is made out of recycled cards and tissue paper, the other out of a fortune cookie box. And yes I ate all those cookies...and they were delicious.

Naked People and ASIFA

On Thursdays I usually go to the figure drawing that ASIFA hosts at 7pm. But, since it's spring break for the college they have the class at, there is no drawing tonight. So here are a few drawings I did LAST Thursday.

Also, ASIFA is having the jury screenings for their Animation Festival this week and next week. So I will be checking out the commissioned films tonight. People I know in the NYC area come join me! I'll be there in my shiny shirt.

Do I get on that band wagon? Yes I do.

So, I figured it was time to start a blog and put up all the art work that no one gets to see. I start with not only the background designs for the blog, but also a sketch of the High Line. More to come daily!
